Why Will YOU Give?

Posted By on November 6th, 2012 at 2:03 pm | 0 comments.

This November 30, The PA Breast Cancer Coalition will join hundreds of nonprofits, organizations and businesses in Lancaster County for the Extraordinary Give.

So, what is this whole Extraordinary Give thing, anyway?  It’s a 24-hour online giving marathon hosted by the Lancaster County Community Foundation during which the PA Breast Cancer Coalition has an opportunity to raise thousands of dollars to support women and families in Pennsylvania.  Beginning at midnight, November 30, anyone in the world can log on to ExtraGive.org, search for the PBCC and give a donation of $25 or more.  During that time, the Community Foundation will choose donors for special incentives.  For example, during the “Midnight Madness” hours of 12am – 3am, the Foundation will select a donor at random and throw in a little “Extra” to whichever organization that person chose to support.  Click Here for more information on prizes or head to ExtraGive.org.
Find out why many PBCC supporters have chosen to donate:

Will YOU Give to the PBCC?

If you’re undecided, we’ve chosen the Top 5 Reasons why you should consider it:

1.  All of the money will stay right here in Pennsylvania.   $.83 of every dollar we receive goes to support our programs and services.

2.  The need is great.  32 women in Pennsylvania will be diagnosed with breast cancer TODAY and more than 12,000 will be diagnosed this year.

3.  Research.  Scientists and doctors in PA are breaking ground on possible new treatments every day, but they cannot continue their work without funding from nonprofits like the PBCC.

4.  Advocacy.  There are no questions too big or too small.  The PBCC staff works to find the answers, treatments and resources for women every day.

5.  Because we need to find a cure now.  Each one of our programs at the PBCC supports that mission. From our Friends Like Me Care Packages to our Refunds for Research program, the PBCC relies strongly on contributions from the community to continue our work.

For 20 years, we have been fortunate to have generous donors, volunteers and Grassroots Partners.  The PBCC has set an Extraordinary Give goal of $3,200 – $100 for each woman in PA diagnosed with breast cancer every day.  Help us continue our mission for the next 20 years by setting aside a little “Extra” and participating in this year’s Extraordinary Give on November 30!

New book a compilation of stories about life and hope with breast cancer

2011 PA Breast Cancer Coalition ConferenceHARRISBURG, Pa. – “Pink Ribbon Stories: A Celebration of Life” (ISBN 978-0-9701379-7-5) by 10-year breast cancer survivor Tammy Miller offers hope and laughter from personal stories of battling breast cancer. Miller compiled over 120 entries from women and men whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.

Throughout her own diagnosis, Miller used her sense of humor on her journey. She went through her first breast cancer surgery wearing a clown nose and shoes while carrying a kazoo. For her second, she wore a pink feather boa. Miller’s sense of humor and optimism made her journey a memorable one for those around her.

Referencing “Pink Ribbon Stories,” Miller says “there are stories that will warm your heart; make you laugh; cause you to pause for reflection; and others that simply tell a story of a courageous journey through life. There are words and stories to encourage, inspire and make you smile. This book is one way I can show those who are battling breast cancer that they are not alone.”

“Pink Ribbon Stories: A Celebration of Life” is available online at http://pbcc.me/PinkRibbonStories or through your favorite e-reader’s store. Proceeds benefit the PA Breast Cancer Coalition.

Two Cars Sport Pink Throughout Travels

Posted By on April 26th, 2011 at 10:12 am | 0 comments.

I thought I’d continue our posts with another car-themed Grassroots Partner. Rick Stauffer, PBCC’s on-call computer tech, will begin a marathon of driving on April 28th. Rick and his friend Jim Roberts are participating in the One Lap of America series of races. Rick and Jim will be racing at several tracks across the U.S. and plan to support the PBCC through their travels.

In an effort to raise awareness and donations, Rick & Jim are selling stickers that adhere to their cars. They are accepting donations in any amount, but for a minimum donation of $10 Rick & Jim will put a sticker on their cars with the name of someone you would like to honor or recognize in memory. You can also put your own name on the sticker to show your support. They plan to place as many stickers on their cars as possible including on the roof, on the roof hoop and the high part of the back window. They plan to leave the stickers on the vehicles through the competition and show season that lasts well into the fall.

If you would like to support Rick & Jim’s quest to fill their cars with PBCC stickers, you can send your donations to:
PA Breast Cancer Coalition
Attn: One Lap 2011
344 N. Reading Rd.
Ephrata, PA 17522

Be sure to check out Rick & Jim’s blog throughout the race. We’ll keep you posted on how much they raise! Go Rick & Jim!

Breast Cancer Survivor, Family, Friend, Health Care Provider? Share Your Story

Posted By on April 15th, 2011 at 9:09 am | 6 comments.

Tammy Miller is collecting your stories for her book, Pink Ribbon Stories: A Celebration of Life. Not sure what to say?  Tammy or a team member will interview you and write your story. The publication is due out this Summer with proceeds going to the PBCC.

We are looking for your stories, thoughts, and poems to encourage, inspire, and make you smile, from anyone whose life has been touched by breast cancer.  Since some people are not sure where to begin with their story, we are offering some questions you may consider:

  1. What did you learn through this process?
  2. What words of encouragement would you offer others?
  3. Is there anything you wish you knew before going through this?
  4. Is there anything you wish your doctor would have told you?
  5. Can you identify anything humorous that happened on this path to recovery?

These specific questions do not have to be in your story, but are being offered for consideration.

Submit your information to Tammy at: pinkribbonstories@tammyspeaks.com. You can send it as a Word document (1,200 word max) or in the body of an e-mail. If you need assistance with the typing/telling of your story, please let Tammy know and someone will assist you with your submission.

Deadline for all submissions is June 1, 2011. All stories are subject to editing for space. Any questions, please contact Tammy at: tammy@tammyspeaks.com or call (814) 360-4031.
