Nestled in downtown Erie, the breeze from Lake Erie was present to cool off the staff, volunteers, and most importantly, the batters for the Home Run Derby. To top of the perfect weather, the staff at the Erie SeaWolves continues to shine. They were always willing to help and made the event a smashing one!

Photo Exhibit Opening Tonight in Huntingdon, PA

Posted By on May 12th, 2011 at 8:14 am | 0 comments.

York County Photo Exhibit OpeningThe PA Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) is pleased to work with the Huntingdon County Exhibit Committee and J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital to bring its traveling photo exhibit 67 Women, 67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania, to Huntingdon County from May 12th through May 22nd.  The photo exhibit will be displayed in the Main Lobby of the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital located at 1225 Warm Springs Avenue in Huntingdon.

An opening reception is scheduled for Thursday, May 12th at 5 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. The pink van and PBCC staff will be on hand to kick-off the 110th showing of the photo exhibit. This will be our first visit to Huntingdon County!

This work of art features women from each of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties, along with a message about how breast cancer has touched their lives.  The women reflect the diversity of Pennsylvania, and their stories reflect the impact of breast cancer on themselves, their families and their communities.  The exhibit encourages women to learn about early detection and celebrates life, courage, hope and dignity of women and families who have battled breast cancer.  67 Women, 67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania is sponsored by the PBCC and funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Pat Halpin-Murphy, President and Founder of the PBCC, encourages everyone to visit the exhibit.  “Breast cancer is not a rare event separate from the fabrics of our everyday lives.  It impacts our mothers, daughters and friends.  We must educate ourselves about this disease and fight to find a cure now…so our daughters won’t have to.”

“The Alliance for Breast Care (ABC) at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital is honored to host the 67 Women, 67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania exhibit,” said Dr. Maria Pettinger, Medical Director of Radiology at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital. “This opportunity is limited to a few locations in the Commonwealth each year. We want to encourage not only the residents of Huntingdon County to take advantage of this inspirational exhibit, but also the people from the surrounding counties to experience the strength and courage of those who have faced breast cancer.”

Two Cars Sport Pink Throughout Travels

Posted By on April 26th, 2011 at 10:12 am | 0 comments.

I thought I’d continue our posts with another car-themed Grassroots Partner. Rick Stauffer, PBCC’s on-call computer tech, will begin a marathon of driving on April 28th. Rick and his friend Jim Roberts are participating in the One Lap of America series of races. Rick and Jim will be racing at several tracks across the U.S. and plan to support the PBCC through their travels.

In an effort to raise awareness and donations, Rick & Jim are selling stickers that adhere to their cars. They are accepting donations in any amount, but for a minimum donation of $10 Rick & Jim will put a sticker on their cars with the name of someone you would like to honor or recognize in memory. You can also put your own name on the sticker to show your support. They plan to place as many stickers on their cars as possible including on the roof, on the roof hoop and the high part of the back window. They plan to leave the stickers on the vehicles through the competition and show season that lasts well into the fall.

If you would like to support Rick & Jim’s quest to fill their cars with PBCC stickers, you can send your donations to:
PA Breast Cancer Coalition
Attn: One Lap 2011
344 N. Reading Rd.
Ephrata, PA 17522

Be sure to check out Rick & Jim’s blog throughout the race. We’ll keep you posted on how much they raise! Go Rick & Jim!

Once a lucky person/family purchases the xD, Peruzzi will make a $500 donation to the PBCC in honor of the new owners. Take a look at the finished product pictured below!

Look for the special bags of the Kettle Cook’d Potato Chips in a store near you between May 2 and May 14. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these special bags will be donated to the PBCC.

Martin’s has donated over $84,000 to the PBCC through the sale of the pink ribbon bags of their most popular product, the Kettle Cook’d Potato Chips. The company was recognized as a 2010 Pink Ribbon Award recipient last year at the PA Breast Cancer Coalition Annual Conference. We are thankful for all their continued efforts!
