Charlie L. from the City of Erie TeamOn Friday, July 8th, the PBCC crew and the pink van traveled to the home of the Erie SeaWolves, Jerry Uht Park. Nestled in downtown Erie, the breeze from Lake Erie was present to cool off the staff, volunteers, and most importantly, the batters for the Home Run Derby. To top of the perfect weather, the staff at the Erie SeaWolves continues to shine. They were always willing to help and made the event a smashing one!

Check out our scoreboard for the day:

Home Run Hitter: Jeff JonesWe also were lucky to have two home runs at Jerry Uht! Brian King from TESCO & the Fette Family Team 1 and Jeff Jones from Icing on the Lake Team 1 both knocked the ball over the back fence! Congratulations!

Thank you to WICU and WJET for stopping by to highlight the event. Also a big thanks to all of our volunteers! We would not be able to have our events without you! Take a look at all of the photos from our day at Jerry Uht Park!

President’s Corner: Want To Take a Swing Against Breast Cancer?

Posted By on June 15th, 2011 at 9:00 am | 0 comments.

We want to add your name to our 2011 Home Run Derby Hall of Fame – but you need to step up to the plate to make it happen!  We’re still registering batters for each of the eleven ballparks taking part in the Home Run Derby. Register a team of four or just yourself – or give a Dad you know a Father’s Day gift he’ll talk about for years to come.

As an added bonus for those who register by the end of this month, you will get 5 extra swings when you step into the batter’s box. This gives you even more chances to knock one out of the park. We have 11 different events happening at ballparks across the state in July, so check our website to find the one closest to you.

Grassroots Partner: Dodge4Cure Dodgeball Tournament

Posted By on May 16th, 2011 at 12:57 pm | 0 comments.

For many of us, dodgeball is a distant memory confined to our gym class experiences. For Kim Wilke and her family who organized the Dodge4Cure Dodgeball Tournament, it is a great way to raise money for the PBCC to help in the fight against breast cancer – not to mention great exercise! The tournament raised $10,040 for the PBCC in its third year. Thanks to Kim, the entire Wilke family, and all those who participated and sponsored the event to make it such a smashing success!

This event is a great example of what can happen when one person takes the extra steps to turn something they love to do into something that does a lot of good for others. If you are inspired to follow Kim’s lead and turn your hobby into a fundraiser for the PBCC, contact Sarah at Sarah@PABreastCancer.org for information on how you can become a Grassroots Partner.

It’s not just the weather heating up! Excitement surrounding the Take a Swing Against Breast Cancer Home Run Derby is at a fever pitch with the first crack of the bat just under 3 months away. While the dates are set, the lineup isn’t –so won’t you join us this July as a batter, sponsor, volunteer or spectator?

With 11 dates set at locations across the state, there’s bound to be an opportunity to get involved near you. As a special bonus, if you are one of the first eleven teams to register before the end of April, you get two free registrations for our Annual Conference in October! What a great way to see firsthand the strength and courage of breast cancer survivors and the commitment of advocates. Use the registrations for members of your team or for the breast cancer survivor or advocate in your life that inspired you to step up to the plate and take a swing!
