Paint the Rink Pink – We’re Here for the Hansons

Posted By on June 15th, 2011 at 9:00 am | 0 comments.

It was a hockey night in Harrisburg when the Hanson Brothers returned to take the ice. The Hansons joined with teams of local hockey talent in a night of hard-hitting fun for the whole family. Rob Ziemba and Jon Jehrio of Play It Again for Charity brought the Slap Shot stars back to Central PA once again to Paint the Rink Pink for the PBCC.

The event featured players wearing pink laces in their skates and playing with pink pucks in a pink themed arena before a crowd of 350 hockey fans. Proceeds from the event are still being tallied. Play it Again for Charity has donated over $50,000 to the PBCC since 2006. Our thanks to all those who came out to help Paint the Rink Pink this year!

Grassroots Partner: Dodge4Cure Dodgeball Tournament

Posted By on May 16th, 2011 at 12:57 pm | 0 comments.

For many of us, dodgeball is a distant memory confined to our gym class experiences. For Kim Wilke and her family who organized the Dodge4Cure Dodgeball Tournament, it is a great way to raise money for the PBCC to help in the fight against breast cancer – not to mention great exercise! The tournament raised $10,040 for the PBCC in its third year. Thanks to Kim, the entire Wilke family, and all those who participated and sponsored the event to make it such a smashing success!

This event is a great example of what can happen when one person takes the extra steps to turn something they love to do into something that does a lot of good for others. If you are inspired to follow Kim’s lead and turn your hobby into a fundraiser for the PBCC, contact Sarah at Sarah@PABreastCancer.org for information on how you can become a Grassroots Partner.

Posted By on May 16th, 2011 at 12:55 pm | 0 comments.

Martin’s Potato Chips invited the PBCC to its factory for a behind the scenes look at how their delicious snacks are made. Earlier this month, they brought their special pink ribbon bags back for a Mother’s Day promotion. Check out the video for a snack sneak peek and see how Martin’s continues to Chip in for a Cure.

Through the sale of the special pink ribbon bags of its Kettle Cook’d Potato Chips, Martin’s has donated over $84,000 to the PBCC. For its generosity and commitment to breast cancer awareness, the company was recognized as a 2010 Pink Ribbon Award recipient at the 2010 PA Breast Cancer Coalition Annual Conference. Thanks to everyone at Martin’s for their continued support and for the tour!

Hanson Brothers back for another round of hockey

Posted By on May 4th, 2011 at 2:06 pm | 2 comments.

The movie Mystery; Alaska told the story of a hockey publicity stunt which brought the New York Rangers to a small rural town for an exhibition game. On May 14, hockey fans will get a taste of the NHL and Hollywood — when three stars from the movie “SLAP SHOT” return to Harrisburg to raise money for the PA Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC).

“Paint the Rink Pink” — featuring the Hanson Brothers is scheduled for Saturday, May 14 at 5 p.m. at Twin Ponds East on Corey Road in Harrisburg. The event will feature the original Hanson Brothers from the 1977 movie Slap Shot playing with the Red Robin Robin’s and Team Full Circle Copiers. The Hanson Brothers have already helped to raise over $41,000 for the PBCC. The trio will wear their famous Charlestown Chiefs uniforms — complete with their signature black glasses. The game will also feature the use of pink pucks and a pink themed arena. At the First Intermission, the Hanson’s will play in the En-Kay Sporting Goods Little Dudes Game — which will introduce area youth to old time hockey.

According to Rob Ziemba, Founder of “Play It Againfor Charity, “We have created our own Hanson Brothers Booster Club right here in Central PA. It’s been a lot of fun giving hockey fans the opportunity to meet three stars from the greatest sports movie ever! The Hanson’s are great with the fans and many fans return each year to see them. It’s going to be another fun exhibition hockey game for all.”

Tickets for the event are $5.00 each and it’s suggested be purchased in advance. Fans can order tickets by mail — by sending a check or money order — payable to: Play It Again for Charity, P.O. Box 272, Campbelltown, PA 17010. Tickets will also be available at the door.

Fans with paid admission will have the opportunity to meet and greet the Hanson Brothers in the lobby during the Third Period.  8 x 10 Hanson Brothers Photos will be available for $10.00 each and can be autographed for free.

Come join the fun on May 14th and enjoy the Hanson Brothers’ “on-and-off-ice” antics. There will be many hockey prize raffles, music, food and Puck Hog Hockey Pro Shop will offer specials on equipment. Interested fans can visit: www.slapshot2.org for more information.
